Confessions of an Ex-Homophobe

A few years back, I met my best friends at college. Of course, at the time I didn’t know they were gonna become my best friends, neither did I know that they were, yes, GAY!

It all started when my girlfriend broke up with her lover and I was trying to give her support. She told me a brief part of the story, but she never mentioned her lover was a girl. When she told me, I was shocked! It was my first time facing this kind of situation. I admit, I was a homophobe. But I told her that she is my friend and being a lesbian was not going to change that.

A few weeks later my two best guy friends confessed that they were both gay. Then I found out that almost all the friends I hung out with were either homosexual, transsexual, or bisexual.

My opinion today has changed. I am not a homophobe anymore. I wasn’t beaten or killed by any LGBT, so why fear them? They are just like me: human beings who deserve RESPECT and LOVE.

I love my friends; they are everything to me.
