Do you believe in our basic human right to bodily integrity?Do you believe in our right to equality whether gay or straight, trans or cis-gender, men or women?
If yes, we invite you to be on the right side of history and join the movement for LGBT [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer] liberation from all forms of oppression in Lebanon. Were you angered by the inhumane scandal in Dekwaneh? #DekAbuse is the hashtag we launched on Twitter to refer to the abuse of power by the mayor of Dekwaneh who ordered the closure of Ghost gay bar and the detention of individuals based on their perceived sexual orientation and gender expression. Those individuals were subjected to verbal, physical and sexual abuse. The authorities stood idle, will you? Finally, would you like to win a dinner for two in Bardo, “the Only Bar with True Love in Beirut”? Join the Equality Marathon online in two easy steps:
Between the 3rd and the 15th of May, write your thoughts about homophobia, the Dekwaneh abuse, and the LGBT community in Lebanon, and be part of the marathon to equality in the country. All the blogs are going to be published on LebIDAHO.com and shared on Lebanese LGBT Media Monitor. The three submissions that earn the highest “Likes” will each win a dinner for two at Bardo. Results will be announced by The Monitor on the International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia (IDAHO) on May 17th. Write in whichever language you like [Arabic, English, French, etc.] and in whatever form [Writing, Photography, poem, etc.] This event is brought to you by #LebLGBT bloggers, Lebanese LGBT Media Monitor and Bardo.
